Baby Sessions

My approach and style to photographing babies is clean, timeless and minimalistic, with an emphasis on your baby as the beautiful artistic subject without overpowering them with the use of props or unnatural posing.I love to use soft, and neutral colours such as white, creams, grays and pastels and sometimes also love a bit of dark and moody feel.

Where do shoots take place?

My favourite place to photograph babies is in my studio in Bergvliet. It’s a contained environment with minimal distractions for babies, and better control over lighting.

How far in advance should I book my session?

I recommend that you book your shoot for about two months prior to needing the finished product in-hand. For weekday availability, I’d suggest you email me at least a month in advance to schedule a session. Saturday sessions are very limited and tend to book up far in advance very quickly. Don’t wait to email me! It's never too early to get on my schedule.

I do occasionally have cancellations, or unexpected gaps in my schedule, so feel free to send me a request even if it’s last minute. Your photo-viewing appointment will be approximately two weeks after your session, and your finished product (depending on your order) will arrive between three and four weeks after that.

Babies can be photographed at any time, but my favourite time to photograph babies is between five and 10 days old, before newborn acne and too much stimulation sets in. Another session between… six and nine months is also wonderful, showing the change to a babe  sitting, smiling  and full of personality…... but before they can crawl away from the camera!

What to wear/bring

For babies, bring simple and plain clothes, little hats/baby towels, nappy covers and simple blankets. Avoid clothing with too many patterns unless you have a specific idea in mind.

Bring a combination of darker and lighter clothing for baby and yourself.

When and how will I select my favourite images from my shoot?

I offer in-person photo reveal and ordering appointments two to three  weeks after your photo session.

I do this for a few reasons - firstly for your convenience. I have a system for helping clients decide between images, showing similar images side by side for easy selection, and assisting people with getting great variety for albums and the perfect wall art pieces. Because I will show a lot of beautiful images, it can be overwhelming to choose on your own and I don't want my customer service to stop at the photo shoot. The in-person photo reveal is my favourite part of the whole process !

Many of my clients travel in from out of South Africa for their photography sessions, and is seldom practical for them to return for their photo reveal appointment a few weeks later. For these clients, remote viewing sessions via Skype are available or if time allows I can have images ready for viewing 48 hours after a shoot.

Every image presented to you will be fully retouched to make you and your family look your best. No need to worry about rashes, baby acne or snotty noses!

Displaying your images

I offer high quality fine art prints, mounted prints, framed wall collections, framed canvasses and fine art albums to display your photos. I understand the need for digital images and an equivalent-sized digital image is included with every print purchased, allowing you to make your own reprints.
