I've heard from other photographers that it's harder to do a shoot with your own family than with complete strangers and I'd always thought that this was a bit weird... but I found this to be quite true when trying to do a little shoot at home with my 7 day old son and husband. I think we got some beautiful classic images anyway...

Last week my baby boy, Jude, made his appearance into the world, 10 days early. There is so much I could say about this miraculous new addition but what has amazed me most is the overwhelming love I feel for this little guy. I have a whole new respect for people who have lost a child.I know I'm biased but man he's so cute!

I did a maternity shoot with Marinda a few months back and it is unbelievable that 'the bump' is now a gorgeous little baby boy, Ruan. Marinda is such a wonderful mom, it's beautiful to see. In between bouts of crying and drooling, we managed to get some great shots:

Julia and Kevin's Couple Shoot |
|
Tuesday, 08 April 2008 |
|
Julia and Kevin are from the UK but have been living in South Africa for the past 6 months - Julia thought it would be a great idea to have a portrait session with her boyfriend at Llundudno. So we went last week and it was the most perfect summer evening - no wind (miraculous for Cape Town!), and beautiful sunshine! I had great fun with these guys who are super-sporty and up for anything!

Helena thought that a big family shoot was a great idea for a Christmas gift so we headed out to Durbanville on a summer's evening with the whole clan in tow. These guys were pretty much game for anything, I was only disappointed that I didn't get to see Ouma's pole-dancing antics! Just a few from the shoot:

Loren and her family were down in the Cape from Joburg over the December holidays... so we organised a morning shoot in Kirstenbosch along with her brother and his family. We had a great time chasing ducks, finding a tractor and adoring sleepy babies. Here are just a few from the shoot:

Sam's Family at Gold Reef City |
|
Friday, 21 December 2007 |
|
Last week when I was up in Joburg to photograph Justin and Justine's wedding , I did a shoot at Gold Reef City with Sam and her family. Sam is a photographer, so it was a little bit daunting but also great to have a bit more creative freedom than normal. They are such a cool family and were so up for anything as we explored the nooks, crannies, rides and 4D cinema at Gold Reef. Sam's son, Dustin, is not a huge photo person (a lot of guys aren't and growing up with a photographer mom must be quite a thing!) and so he gave me a bit of a hard time... Sam put together a digital scrapbooking piece of him tuning me during the shoot.
Thanks for an awesome day guys and letting me part of a half-day in your lives. I'm so looking forward to shooting Leigh-Anne and Steve's wedding at Velmore next year!

Last week I went to Rondebosch to do a family shoot with Simonne and Dal and their fantastic kids at their home in Rondebosch. Their oldest daughter, Bianca, was just about to head off to London for a gap year so it was a good time to get the family together!

Julia contacted me a while back to organise a family photo shoot as a birthday present for her husband which I thought was such a great idea. So on Wednesday, we me at Llunduno with their 2 gorgeous kids, Hugo and Sophie, and despite the typical howling Cape Town wind, had a great shoot and got some stunning pics. Here are just a few so far:

A little while back I did a shoot with Megan and Warren and their little boy, Matthew, out at their place in Bloubergstrand. One of the things I love about photographing kids is their range of expressions and their energy... the best thing is just to let them run around and be natural. A few shots from their shoot:

I had a complete blast on Monday shooting the directors and marketing team from Yeigo (a company specialising in VOiP - hello to cheap international and local cell calls!). They were after something a little bit different and so we headed to the burnt-out shell of Madame Zingaras in Loop Street and took some shots - the guys in this company are completely dynamic, young and fun and it was fabulous to spend the afternoon with them!
